Recientemente cayo en mis manos este amplificador y por pura curiosidad me dio por abrirle. No hace falta que ponga “Hecho a mano”, la construcción del mismo lo dice por el. Tendra aproximadamente 30 años o mas y sigue funcionando a la perfección. Cabe decir que el diseño de estos aparatos no ha cambiado mucho. Los mecanismos de producción y la construcción de los componentes discretos por otro lado si. Me pregunto cuantos mas aguantara…


AT-120LP-USB Review

Recently my old turntable (Technics) suffer a “not to be explained further” accident, beyond repair. So i started the hunt for a new turntable. In the end, i found on ebay (or course) a relately cheap Audio Technica AT-120LP-USB turntable. After a few weeks using it, here’s my opinion:


It has all sorts of features, reverse playing, quartz speed control, pitch control, 33rpm, 45rpm, 78rpm! and all with such quality for a really good price!

Plus the fact that it has a USB output. These are the needle and cartbridge that i’m currently using, not the best, i know…but they sound really great:

iTunes Match

About a month ago or so i subscribed to the brand new apple service iTunes Match. I’ve been using it for a while now and i’d like to share with you my insights about it.

First of all, like most products from the bitten fruit it works well. The set up process is really simple. Done using the iTunes Store it works similar to the known Genius. It analyses your music and sends that information to their servers. Once that is done they cross reference your library with theirs so that every song the they already have (form the iTunes Store) is automatically added to the cloud. After that the only thing left to do is upload the remaining songs that they do not have, which takes a while depending on your upload speed.

Now you have a complete back of your music on the iCloud. Neat, right?


If you have a song in your library that they already have and for whatever the reason you need to download it from the cloud, this new file will have no DRM. Also if your original file had a lower quality, the file that you download will be 256 kbps aac. However if the song that you download belongs to that group of songs that you had to download, the new file will be the same that you uploaded. Also you can add multiple computers and iOS devices to your account, so lets say that you own a Netbook or a MacBook Air. The storage capacity in these devices is very limited, however now you can listen to your whole iTunes library on streaming, say without having to store all the files on your computer.


It doesn’t work very well in the iPhone. I’ve tried it on the brand new 4S and even when using WiFi, it just works really slow. So far, there is nothing like having a local copy of the files. Also, you can’t play your music using the browser at limit is 25000 songs, for lots of people that is not enough.

Besides that, it works amazing and i love fact that i have a complete backup in the cloud of my music besides my local backup.


So, here is my latest design, basically it’s a USB stick that you plug into your computer and automatically starts broadcasting your music throughout the FM radio. In other words: Plug and play.

It features Play, Pause, Stop, Next, Previous, Volumen + and Volumen – controls. And it works in any OS. No drivers required.

The carrier frequency can be adjusted using a variable coil. It can transmit between 88MHz and 108MHz. It drains its power from the USB but an additional amp can be plugged into the antenna output to increase the transmitter power and therefore obtain a greater range.

Encontrar un problema a una solución, y que eso cause otro problema.
Cuando por fin la maravillosa librería VirtualWire.h soluciona mis problemas de transmisión (lo cuales no tendría si no hubiese comprado el transmisor mas barato…) automáticamente todo un grupo de funciones de vuelve loco. Al parecer no pueden funcionar a la vez, no les gusta compartir. Luego, ahora que? Busco otra forma de hacer lo uno, o lo otro.
Si es que la rubia tenia razón, ingenieros…por cada solución, un nuevo problema.

ONTO Review

Hola, hoy vamos a hacer un review de mi ultima adquisición tecnológica, los auriculares de Audio-Technica ONTO ATH-ON3.

Desde mi punto de vista, como auriculares cerrados portables, son el modelo definitivo, ya que son ligeros y ajustables, pequeños pero a la vez cerrados. El hecho de que la banda este hecha con una varilla metálica en vez de plástico, te asegura cierta elasticidad y durabilidad. La calidad de sonido es mejor de la esperada, para un modelo de tan bajo precio. Son muy cómodos, aunque puede resultar que aprietan un poco de mas, aunque por otro lado, seria muy difícil que se te caiga corriendo o haciendo alguna otra actividad similar. Asimismo la estética es elegante y moderna. Puedes comprarlos en distintos colores, aunque yo he preferido un discreto BasicBlack.

En definitiva, como auriculares rápidos, de calle y con cierta estética son ideales. Pero no son la clase de auricular que usarías en casa para disfrutar de horas de vinilo.

Bueno, una camiseta que me hice el otro dia, para los directos 😛


Bueno, tras mucho trabajo, finalmente he llegado a la version final de modulo de control principal del ClockCloud. Aunque aun quedan algunos detalles por pulir, en lo que al protocolo de transmision de los datos se refiere, el diseño fisico ya es final. El reloj principal ya es 100% independiente, y no precisa de nada mas para funcionar, la hora se muestra en pantalla, y puede accederse a la configuracion en cualquier momento, transmite perfectamente y se recibe sin problemas. Ahora ya solo queda mejorar el algoritmo de transmision y acabar de diseñar el receptor.

Mas abajo dejo todos los archivos necesarios para construir uno, asi mismo, el diseño de la PCB a sido subido a una casa de contruccion, lo que permite comprar la PCB hecha en una fabrica en buenas condiciones y asi poder montar el circuito sin problemas en casa, solo hacen falta los componentes, un soldador y un poco de maña.

Finally, he aqui la primera version funcional del reloj, featuring unas simples funciones para fijar la hora en el RTC, consultarla y sacarla en pantalla. Ahora queda la parte mas dificil, mejorar este codigo, y implementar el teclado para hacer que el reloj sea 100% autonomo, las alarmas y el envio RF de datos.
